Volunteer with us

“The volunteers are truly the heartbeat of our organization. Not only do they ensure the important work gets done, they keep our centre accountable to the community and restorative justice principles. The growth mindset, commitment, and joy the volunteers bring to our centre is deeply appreciated.”

- Karen Milstein-McKinnon, Managing Director

  • Sixty plus volunteers

We would not exist without the 60+ volunteers who power our work. Many of our volunteers, with a wide range of ages and backgrounds, have been volunteering with us for more than ten years.

  • Flexible time commitments

Depending on the role(s) our volunteers perform, there are minimum and flexible time commitments. Schedules vary and are often flexible.

  • Five plus roles available

There are many ways to volunteer with the the Community Justice Centre. Initial and ongoing trainings are provided, and we’re always open to specific training requests from our volunteers.

  • “I've always been intrigued by the law and observed, even during my childhood, the difference, oftentimes, between the enforcement of the law and social justice. By volunteering at CJC, I am afforded the opportunity to witness how the law and social justice may meld harmoniously into a restorative resolution.“

    Admin Coordinator

  • “Volunteering at the CJC has opened up a whole new world for me — one in which second chances are the rule, rather than the exception.”

    Panel and Committee Member

  • “I’ve been the recipient of great support, understanding and kindness given without expectation of repayment. Paying it forward feels right!“

    Case Coordinator

  • ”It is a tangible and concrete way to counter the punitive nature and foundation of the justice system. Knowing I can’t change the whole world now, or at any other time, this work gives me the chance to make a difference for one or two people at a time. It’s the rent I am pleased to pay for the gift of living in this community.”

    Facilitator

  • ”I saw what a difference Restorative Justice made in my teenage daughter's life. It was a pivotal learning opportunity in her life rather than punitive. I now have an opportunity to give back to a valuable organization while learning more about Restorative Justice in our community.”

    Panel Member
